Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner explains late substitution decisions in Wolves draw
Oliver Glasner said Crystal Palace’s 2-2 draw with Wolves on Saturday was not the right moment to give some of the youth players minutes.
The Eagles took a small squad up to Molineux, with four U21 players – Asher Agbinone, Franco Umeh, Justin Devenny and Caleb Kporha – all named on the bench.
Glasner subbed on Cheick Doucoure, Nathaniel Clyne and Jeffrey Schlupp during the second half.
Schlupp played as one of the creative attackers behind Jean-Philippe Mateta alongside Daniel Munoz, who was pushed forward from right wing-back.
“We had control, otherwise we wouldn’t have had this big chance with Daniel,” said Glasner of his late changes.
“He showed at Villa in the last minutes that he is always aggressive and can attack a situation.
“He was there with the keeper and then the ball is free. JP has an empty net goal – it’s what we were thinking.
“I could have given one of our U21s a chance and minutes, but it was not the game to have your debut and going up and down in this game.
“Will Hughes has his fifth yellow card and will be suspended against Fulham. It will be time for them to get some minutes.
“This week really gives me confidence.”
