Danny Murphy back at Charlton Athletic – but we’re not talking the former midfielder who also played for Fulham and Tottenham

Charlton have brought in Danny Murphy to their physio set-up – and he formerly worked one-to-one with Tottenham and Real Madrid superstar Gareth Bale.

Murphy started off as an academy physiotherapist at the Addicks before going on to work in sports science at Chelsea before Tottenham was his next stop off.

He worked at the north London club as first-team rehabilitation specialist for more than 12 years.

Murphy set up his own company You. Better. Ltd – in May 2017 – as a physiotherapy and rehabilitation consultant.

Charlton boss Lee Bowyer has dealt with a horrendous injury pile up this season. Murphy’s appointment is aimed at helping reduce the numbers in the treatment room.

“He was Gareth Bale’s personal trainer,” said Bowyer. “They worked at Spurs together. Gareth went to Real Madrid from Spurs and then took him with him.

“He lived out in Madrid.

“He has come in to help us with his experience and knowledge. All the players, they love him.

“Chris Solly has had his problems with his knee and he says that Danny is doing stuff which he has never done before – he’s feeling a million times better.

“Lyle speaks highly of him too. All the feedback is very, very good.”
