Dons’ attacking talent Ayoub Assal training with England U20s
AFC Wimbledon’s Ayoub Assal has been training with the England U20 squad at St Georges’ Park.
The 20-year-old, who was called up to a Morocco U20 training camp in November 2020, is training with England with a view to potentially joining Andy Edwards’ side for their upcoming games against Poland and Germany.
Assal has scored six goals and contributed four assists for AFC Wimbledon in 34 League One games this season.
Dons head coach Mark Robinson told the club website: “Ayoub has been called up by England, and he’s training with them at the moment.
“He’s someone I’ve worked with for a long, long time, and these are the things that are huge for us.
“We’re all very proud. It wasn’t so long ago that I couldn’t get him a loan in the Conference South because I got told he was too small. Now that he’s played multiple games for our first team, he’s got a call up for our country.
“It’s incredible.”
If Assal is called up to the squad, which consists of Crystal Palace youngsters Jesurun Rak-Sakyi and Luke Plange, he will miss Saturday’s game against Cambridge United.
