Dons prospect Ayoub Assal could spearhead their attack in League Two campaign
Johnnie Jackson believes Ayoub Assal has the attributes to play as a striker for AFC Wimbledon this season.
The 20-year-old has netted 12 goals and collected six assists in 56 League One matches.
Assal opened the scoring in Tuesday night’s 2-0 friendly win at Farnborough. He then won the penalty which was converted by a trialist.
Asked if playing right up top was an option in the new League Two campaign, Dons boss Jackson told the South London Press: “I think so. He’s got the capability to play in a number of forward positions – behind the front as a 10, as an attacking midfielder or even further forward at times, just because of the runs and movements he makes. He’s quick and aggressive as well.
“Despite his size he is aggressive and uses his body well.
“He’s capable of playing any number of positions at the top end of the pitch.
“I’m really excited about Ayoub, he’s been brilliant since I walked through the door – not just his ability but his attitude to the work, how he trains every day.
“He came on and impacted the last game. He’s definitely someone who is going to be a big part of what we do.”
