Double podium success for Horsman at Cadwell Park
British GP2 rider, Cameron Horsman from Lewisham, got the best from his Chassis Factory / Go Racing Developments SGR Moto2 machine to finish on the podium twice at Cadwell Park.
In the Sprint race on Saturday, he crossed the line 3rd to collect 16 championship points before repeating the success in the Feature Race on Sunday missing out on second position by just 0.119 seconds. He has moved up to third overall in the championship standings on 146 points, two ahead of Jack Scott in fourth.
Improving his lap times in qualifying, Horsman upt in a 1:31.341 which ensured he lined up 15th on the combined grid with the British Supersport bikes and 4th in the British GP2 class, despite it being his forst visit to the track on a 600cc machine.
Horsman had a frustrating start to the Saturday’s 12 lap Sprint race. He got caught up in a group of riders that he had more pace than but was struggling to pass them on the narrow circuit. When he eventually got to the front of the group the gap to riders ahead was already significant.
Unable to close down the riders ahead Horsman concentrated on his race going on to cross the line 9th overall and third in the British GP2 category.
Horsman’s best lap time of 1:31.507 in race one saw him move up the grid for race two held on the Sunday. He started 12th overall and fourth again in the GP2 class.
He managed to hold 12th position through the early corners and was tucked in on the back wheel of fellow British GP2 rider Dan Jones.
As the race went on the gap between the two riders would stretch a little before Horsman would reel it back in. The distance between them was never greater than nine-tenths of a second with Horsman always quickly closing back up if Jones looked like he might escape.
On the final lap, Horsman had latched on to the back wheel of Jones but was just unable to find enough speed and a clean place to make a pass. In the end, he had to settle again for third spot but just 0.119 seconds behind Jones in second position.
Cameron Horsman said,” It was my first time on the Moto2 at Cadwell Park, because the track wasn’t on the calendar last year. It’s a tight circuit so to come away with two podium finishes, in the end, was a good result. Thank you to everyone in the team and my sponsors for keeping me racing.”
Horsman has now stood on the third step of the podium four times this season and will be looking for more success next time out at Snetterton from 3rd to 5th September.
