‘Enjoy it’ – Wrexham boss Parkinson staying relaxed ahead of pivotal League One meeting with Charlton Athletic
Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson has urged his side to “enjoy” their attempts to land the second automatic promotion spot in League One – with his former club Charlton Athletic intent on halting their progress on Saturday.
The Welsh side are hoping to make it back-to-back promotions and just a one season stay in England’s third tier.
Wrexham are in the box seat after Monday’s round of matches, Charlton’s 4-0 thumping of Wycombe Wanderers allowing them to leapfrog the Buckinghamshire club with just two fixtures remaining.
Charlton have won five of their last six matches – drawing the other – as their strong finish has kept alive hopes they could avoid the play-offs.
Parkinson, who was boss of the Addicks between 2008 and 2011, said: “What we have spoken about is making sure the lads are enjoying it, so much work has gone into getting this club into this situation.
“We want to look back in the summer that when those big games came around we really thrived – like we did today (a 2-1 win at Blackpool).
“We knew that we didn’t produce our best performance (in a 1-1 draw against Bristol Rovers) but today we did. It’s a great performance to build into the weekend. I can’t wait for the game.”
