Former Luton striker named Charlton Athletic player-coach on short-term deal

Charlton Athletic haved confirmed that Danny Hylton has joined the club as a player-coach on a short-term deal.

The vastly experienced striker, who has tasted three EFL promotions, featured for the Addicks during pre-season, scoring in the 6-1 win at Dartford.

Nathan Jones is delighted to be working alongside the 35-year-old once again after handing him 158 appearances at Luton Town.

He said: “Danny is someone I know very, very well who is a true professional. He will be an important member of our squad and coaching team. He will push and educate our players and he will live and breathe the club. When needed, he will be someone we can rely on for something different on the pitch.

“He has been with us since the summer and this role is the start of his coaching journey, and I have no doubt he will continue to have a positive impact on our group.”

Hylton started his career at Aldershot Town before enjoying permanent spells at Rotherham United and Oxford United, where he earned promotion from Sky Bet League Two.

After signing for Luton, the striker scored 58 goals during his first three campaigns under Jones’ guidance as the Hatters earned back-to-back promotions.

Having helped Luton establish themselves back in the Championship, Hylton ended his outstanding six-year spell with the club in June 2022 to join Northampton Town, where he spent two seasons.
