Fulham captain pulls no punches over performance against Leeds United

Joachim Andersen reckons that Fulham put in their poorest performance of the season in last Friday’s 2-1 loss to Leeds United.

The Danish centre-back, on a season-long loan from Lyon, scored his first goal for the club as he cancelled out Patrick Bamford’s opener.

But Raphinha’s 58th-minute finish settled the Craven Cottage contest and ensured Fulham stay in the Premier League bottom three heading into the international break.

“I don’t care about my goal – we played our worst game of the season,” said Whites captain Andersen, who has been called up by his country for World Cup qualifiers. “Nothing that we practised during the week succeeded and it was a fair result.

“I don’t feel like we were cool enough on the ball. We wanted to bounce off the midfield and find the spare man, but it didn’t succeed.

“We know Leeds play one against one all over the pitch -we did that really, really well in training but it didn’t come out on Friday. That was really disappointing.”

Fulham resume league action at Aston Villa on April 3. Andersen said: “Maybe the break is good and we can relax and do our best with the national team – clear our head from the club situation.

“We’ll come back with full belief.”
