Gassan Ahadme on teammates’ gesture following win at Walsall: ‘It meant a lot’
Charlton Athletic forward Gassan Ahadme said his teammates’ gesture after his brace in the 4-0 win at Walsall meant a lot to him.
The Addicks’ players pushed Ahadme towards the away supporters to take the acclaim of those who travelled from South London as his two goals helped the side through to the third round of the FA Cup.
The striker, signed for an undisclosed fee from Ipswich Town in the summer, has only bagged one League One goal this term but now has three in the FA Cup following his extra-time winner at Southend United in round one.
He has also missed some big chances recently – notably a close-range header during the defeat at Huddersfield Town last weekend.
Hit teammates ensured he enjoyed a personal moment with the supporters at the Bescot Stadium.
“It meant a lot,” said Ahadme.
“We have a really good relationship in the group. My teammates were really happy for me, especially because of the win as well. That moment was really nice for me.
“It’s always good to get on the scoresheet and more so if the team wins so it’s a good day.
“We were on it from the first minute. We knew they would come in the second-half and try to attack us but we kept relaxed and doing our job and then the game started to open up again. We scored two more goals. It was a really professional performance from us.
“It was a good win from the team. Happy to get two goals as well.”
