‘He’s been a brick wall’ – Charlton defender’s praise for vice-captain Lloyd Jones

Josh Edwards has described Lloyd Jones as “a brick wall” after the Charlton Athletic vice captain made the EFL League One Team of the Season.

The former Liverpool and Cambridge United centre-back was the Addicks only inclusion in the side.

Jones has been a pivotal figure in the South London club’s backline as they have kept a club record 23 clean sheets in the current campaign. He has made 38 appearances as well as scoring goals in wins over Wigan, Bolton and Wycombe Wanderers.

Earlier this month he had been absent for three matches with a calf injury.

Jones signed a new contract with Charlton at the end of January, replacing the one which was due to expire at the end of June.

Full-back Edwards told the South London Press: “He’s been a brick wall. Amazing.

“He has had an unbelievable season. Every game he plays he seems to be picking up man of the matches, so he is clearly doing something right.

“I’m buzzing for him to get in the Team of the Season – he fully deserves it.

“Hopefully he is a big and influential part of us getting promoted through the play-offs.”
