‘I still follow the club’ – Ex-Charlton midfielder Claus Jensen excited by Valley return on Saturday
Valley fans’ favourite Claus Jensen is relishing his return to Charlton Athletic this weekend.
The former Danish international will be joined at the Addicks’ home stadium on Saturday by Hermann Hreidarsson, Jonatan Johansson, Martin Pringle and Mathias Svensson.
The League One club have called the event – Charlton Nordics – and there is a signing session in Meantime Fans’ Bar followed by a Q&A in Club 1905.
Shortly before the first-team’s home game against Huddersfield the quintet will greet supporters on the pitch.
Jensen played 126 matches for Charlton after signing from Bolton Wanderers in 2000 when Alan Curbishley’s side had just been promoted back to the Premier League.
His final campaign saw the Addicks finish seventh in the top flight before he moved across the capital to Fulham.
Injuries forced Jensen to retire at the age of 30.
“I’m really excited about coming back to The Valley,” Jensen told the South London Press. “I’m really looking forward to seeing the fans and I still follow the club.
“I have great memories from my time at Charlton, which was probably the best four years of my career.
“There are so many. We had some really exciting years and for myself, anyway, it was my first introduction to the Premier League.
“I made my debut against Manchester City and we won 4-0. It was a great memory and kind of kicked everything off from there. It was before (Pep) Guardiola and everyone came in but it was still a very special first game for me.
“We were a fantastic home side in most seasons – beating the top teams as well on a pretty regular basis – and they obviously always stand out.
“Overall it was just a fantastic stadium – very intense. The fans were very warm and always supporting us. That is what I really remember.”
