‘Impressed me more and more’ – Millwall boss highlights forward’s start to the season

Millwall boss Gary Rowett says that young forward Aidomo Emakhu has impressed him “more and more” as the 2023-24 campaign has gone along.

Emakhu hit a 96th-minute winner for Ireland’s U21 side on Friday evening in their EURO 2025 qualifying 3-2 victory over Turkey at Turner’s Cross in Cork.

The 19-year-old joined the Lions from Shamrock Rovers in December 2022 but suffered an injury-hit start to life at The Den after picking up a hamstring problem in a U21 match.

Emakhu has been involved with Rowett’s first team since the start of pre-season and set up Romain Esse in the opening day 1-0 win up at Middlesbrough.

He also scored his first goal for the Lions in the 3-1 defeat at Norwich.

“He is a player that has just impressed me more and more as we’ve gone along,” Rowett told the South London Press.

“It is another example of his ability to finish and step up to the level. He has been really impressive.

“He has had a really, really bright start to the season. I’m looking forward to seeing his clips (from the Ireland match) to see how he has fared.”
