In-form Charlton Athletic midfielder: Timing of my runs key to hitting back of the net

By Richard Cawley

Joe Aribo reckons timing is everything as he makes the most of his run in Charlton’s side.

The 21-year-old has started eight of the last nine League One matches.

Aribo is on three goals in League One as he makes a case for his continued involvement. Addicks boss Karl Robinson was believed to be ready to loan the young central midfielder and Karlan Ahearne-Grant before the lockdown on permanent deals as Roland Duchatelet looks to sell the club.

“The manager said I needed to add goals to my game,” said Aribo. “Bow [Lee Bowyer] helps me in training.

“I’ve got to keep making the box and hopefully it will fall to me. I’ve got to take the chances when they come.

“The timing of the runs is key. I’m feeling very good, very confident.

“We’ve got three wins in a row and we just need to keep pushing.

“There is good competition. Every game you have to try your best and leave your mark on the pitch.”

Top-scorer Tariqe Fosu ended two months out of the side as he was an early second half switch in Saturday’s 3-1 win over Walsall.

“When he was injured we were going through a rough patch,” said Aribo. “We had a lot of games and a lot of players injured. It was a small group we were playing with – so seeing people coming back is a big relief.”
