‘It has a wonderful feel’ – Charlton boss on handing debut to Ibrahim Fullah

Charlton Athletic manager Nathan Jones has talked with excitement about the club’s young players after handing Ibrahim Fullah his debut in today’s 3-1 win over Burton Albion.

The Addicks announced last month that the 18-year-old had signed a new long-term contract.

Fullah came on in the second half at The Valley and hit the right post with an effort from Karoy Anderson’s cutback.

Jones had a number of first-teamers not involved in the League One match – Lloyd Jones, Luke Berry and Thierry Small – and talked post-match about finishing with six products of the academy on the pitch.

“What I love about this football club and the academy is that there is a hunger and an athleticism,” said the Welsh boss. “A desire to do well and a talent.

“You saw that today. When you can bring on the likes of what we do – with the athleticism and ability. Ibby trains with us regularly. We have Alan Mwamba, who missed out slightly today. (Micah) Mbick, who has been out most of the season…Karoy and DK (Daniel Kanu).

“You bring on one like that who really want to do well and then bring off TC then you think ‘wow, this club is something special’. That is why I love it and wanted to come here – because I believed it has a wonderful feel about it.

“Today was excellent. It was a good day for us.”
