‘It’s my fault for changing the team’ – Nathan Jones accepts responsibility for Charlton’s first-half display against Blackpool
Charlton boss Nathan Jones accepted responsibility for the poor first-half performance against Blackpool after making changes to his side.
Rarmani Edmunds-Green, Daniel Kanu and Allan Campbell all came in for their first league starts of the campaign – with Luke Berry and Tyreece Campbell dropping to the bench. Alex Mitchell was left out of the squad all together – with the manager confirming this was a tactical decision.
Jones made a substitution during the first-half, with Tyreece Campbell introduced from the bench in place of Thierry Small shortly after Blackpool went two goals ahead.
Jones admitted: “We had to change shape [at 2-0]. I had to think about what I need in the game. We were passive.
“I changed one or two personnel today because of certain things. Luke Berry has been struggling. I felt I wanted to just play a little bit more, be really aggressive so I brought Rarmani in. It’s my fault for changing the team.
“It’s just tactical [to drop Mitchell]. I made a decision. Whether rightly or wrongly, we weren’t ourselves. It wasn’t just one position there, we were a mile off first-half.
“I’ll look at those decisions and adjust from there as there’s a lot of frustration around the game today.”
