James Tomkins to miss visit of former club West Ham – but Crystal Palace boosted by Wilfried Zaha’s return

James Tomkins will miss Crystal Palace’s fixture against his former club West Ham United tomorrow after the defender was involved in a training accident.

However, Wilfried Zaha will return after being absent for the 4-0 defeat at Manchester City eight days ago.

Tomkins recently missed nearly 10 months with a hamstring problem and made his first start since March in December’s 1-1 draw with Leicester City.

“We have lost James Tomkins for tomorrow night, unfortunately,” Palace boss Roy Hodgson revealed.

“It was an accident in training that has meant he has picked up an injury. We are not able to use him tomorrow night, which we would have done otherwise so that’s a blow.

“Apart from that, it’s the players who have been injured for a while now. Jeffrey Schlupp got injured around four weeks ago, and before that there was Connor Wickham, there’s Wayne Hennessey – although he is recovering very well, he is back out on the training field again.

“Nathan Ferguson is also recovering well from the injury he got. In terms of the players and the squad we have been using, it’s basically Schlupp, Tomkins and Mamadou Sakho who are out.”
