Jes Rak-Sakyi: Patrick Vieira’s dismissal was ‘really disappointing news’

Jesurun Rak-Sakyi says he will remain focused on completing his time at Charlton following the “really disappointing news” of Patrick Vieira’s dismissal at his parent club.

The 20-year-old has excelled during his season-long loan spell from Crystal Palace – who dismissed their manager last week after a winless start to 2023.

“It was really disappointing news,” admitted Rak-Sakyi, who was handed his Premier League debut by the Frenchman in August 2021.

“I just woke up to it. But at the end of the day, it’s football and things change quickly. I’m just going to have to deal with it and focus on what I’m doing now which is playing for Charlton. I’m really disappointed to see that but full focus is here.

“I’m sure [the Palace players will] all be disappointed because he was really close with the boys, but I haven’t really spoken to them much.”

Southwark-born, Rak-Sakyi has enjoyed an excellent season with the Addicks – reaching double figures for goals when he grabbed the second in Charlton’s 2-1 win at Cambridge on Saturday.

With his time in SE7 set to end, what does Rak-Sakyi think next year holds for him?

“Next season will take care of itself,” he added

“I’m just trying to be where I’m at, playing and doing the best I can. Wherever that is, I’ll just leave that in God’s hands and hopefully everything will turn out good.

“It’s my first loan. There’s been ups and downs but I’m really grateful for all the teammates and members of staff around me. They’ve made it really easy for me this season.

“Normally first loans are quite difficult, but they’ve made it really easy. I won’t forget anyone here, they’re really good boys here.”
