Johnnie Jackson makes AFC Wimbledon attacking admission after goalless draw against Northampton
AFC Wimbledon boss Johnnie Jackson admitted his side are not scoring enough after picking up a point in their goalless draw against automatic promotion hopefuls Northampton.
It was an evenly contested battle at the Sixfields Stadium, with both sides wanting all three points for their promotion push.
Will Hondermack came closest to opening the scoring in the final 10 minutes – meeting a volley on the edge of the box and smashing a shot just wide.
The Dons only registered two shots on target during the 90 minutes, with Nik Tzanev having to make seven saves.
Wimbledon have only scored once in their last six outings in League Two and are now seven points off the play-off spots.
“It was a close game. It was closely fought – there wasn’t a lot in it,” said Jackson.
“From my team’s point of view, we defended superbly, had a good shape about us and we had a real threat on the counter.
“It’s a similar story to what I have been saying in the last few weeks – it’s about turning those situations and opportunities to break and putting that last little bit on it.
“We’re clearly doing something really well at the end other end. We’re not conceding any goals, going toe-to-toe with all these teams at the top end of the league and not letting up many chances, but we’re not scoring enough.
“It’s hard to get the balance between being as solid as what we are and scoring goals at the other end, which is what we’re trying to do.
“We just need to keep working and it will come. But it has to come from a solid, defensive foundation, which is what we have got.”
