Jonny Williams set for two months out minimum as Charlton injury crisis worsens at Bristol City

BY LOUIS MENDEZ

Charlton midfielder Jonny Williams is set for a couple of months on the side-lines -with the Addicks’ injury crisis worsening as two more limped out of Wednesday’s defeat at Bristol City.

Welsh international Williams was withdrawn during the first-half of Saturday’s home win over Derby after hurting his knee and Charlton boss Lee Bowyer revealed the former Ipswich Town man had an operation on Tuesday.

Sam Field and Jake Forster-Caskey were both forced off with knocks in the first-half of the defeat at Ashton Gate.

“Jonny Williams is not good,” said Bowyer.

“He had to have an operation on his knee. It will be a minimum of a couple of months. A minimum of eight weeks. He had the operation yesterday so we’ll see how long. Then we’ve got to get him fit.

“Disappointing because he’s been doing really for us, he’s been flying. It’s been tough for us at the moment.”

“Sam Field is not looking good there,” added the Chatlton boss, after Field was spotted leaving Ashton Gate in a knee-brace.

“That isn’t looking like a good one either. We’re running out of bodies for sure.

“Jake is a hamstring. So, it’s going to be a few weeks I guess. We just can’t get a break at the minute.

“It is what it is. We’ll keep battling on. Most important thing is our recovery because we haven’t got long (before Saturday’s trip to West Brom).

“West Brom played yesterday so they’ve got an extra 24 hours recovery. The most important thing is the recovery and getting ready for Saturday.”
