“Consistency – you need to have it in a derby” – R’s boss Warburton on Kane dismissal
BY NICK KITUNO
Rangers were reduced to 10 men in their 2-1 defeat to Brentford last night.
The R’s were left a man short with six minutes to go when Todd Kane was shown a second yellow card following a collision with substitute Marcus Forss.
Referee Matthew Donohue sent him off in what compounded a difficult night after Warburton felt Mads Bech Sorensen should have seen red in the first half.
Warburton said consistent refereeing in London derbies is “vitally important”, and that the “big decisions have to be correctly made”.
He said: “One side of the empty stadiums is the loudest shout seems to get the call. The two boys [Kane and Forss] go in for a difficult, bouncing ball, and there are screams from the bench, and suddenly another yellow card is produced.
“[Ivan] Toney kicks out at Yoann Barbet in the first half. Nothing happens. Our player suddenly gets booked for another offence.
“All coaches, and managers, and players, want is consistency. It’s all they want. I understand, and we fully appreciate, how hard that job is. They haven’t got the luxury of Sky cameras and everything else, but consistency in a London derby is vitally important.
“The big decisions have to be correctly made.”
