Lee Bowyer made to sweat on fitness of Karlan Grant and Lyle Taylor after Portsmouth win

Charlton will be made to sweat as they wait to find out how serious injuries to strike duo Karlan Grant and Lyle Taylor are.

Grant’s, who opened the scoring during the win at Portsmouth, was withdrawn midway through the first-half at Fratton Park, with Taylor seen leaving the ground in a protective boot after a heavy challenge that saw former Millwall man Ben Thompson shown a straight red card in second-half added time.

The duo have scored twenty League One goals between them already this campaign.

Addicks boss Lee Bowyer revealed that Grant was suffering with his hamstring but decided to come off after originally playing on after being seen to by the physio.

“We won’t know until we have a scan,” said Bowyer.

“Hopefully it’s not too bad. He said he just didn’t really want to push it too much in case he runs and then it really goes badly and could be a six-weeker. There’s something there, but we don’t know.”

Thompson was given his marching orders as the Addicks were holding on in injury time, leaving Taylor with what Bowyer described as a “big lump” on the Charlton man’s foot.

Bowyer was surprised to see the red card issued, although felt an earlier challenge from the same man on Krystian Bielik should have been punished.

“I didn’t think there was much in it,” admitted the Charlton chief.

“There was two players going in to win the ball from where I was. It looked quite innocent to me. I thought Krystian took a bad one with the elbow in the face. He led with the arm. I know the fella is protecting himself, I’ve done it a million times myself. But it’s still leading with the arm. But Lyle’s one I thought was harsh.”
