Lee Bowyer on Josh Cullen returning to train with Charlton and Lyle Taylor’s injury
BY LOUIS MENDEZ
West Ham loanee Josh Cullen is set to return to training with Charlton tomorrow.
The 23-year-old midfielder suffered a knee injury during the 2-2 draw with Cardiff back in mid-November and was sent back to the London Stadium for treatment.
But Addicks boss Lee Bowyer is set to be reunited with his loan signing at Sparrows Lane on Monday morning.
“Josh Cullen is coming back to us tomorrow at the training ground,” revealed Bowyer.
“He’ll probably still be ten days, two weeks [away from fitness]. But for me to be seeing Josh Cullen walking around our training ground again, it’s going to be a great sight for me.
“He’s been gone for so long. I had a chat with him in the dressing room before the game [in the FA Cup against West Brom]. Hopefully we can start getting these people coming back.”
The Addicks boss was speaking after a young Charlton side were beaten 1-0 by the Baggies in the 3rdround of the FA Cup.
He was able to give Jonny Williams and Tamer Hemed, who have both been side-lined with injuries since October, a run out off the bench as they continue their returns to fitness – and he also provided an update on the thigh problem suffered by striker Lyle Taylor against Swansea last time out.
“It was good to get twenty minutes into Jonny Williams,” he added.
“Thirty into Tamer. They’ll be on the bench [next week]. That’s it now, they’re back.
“[Taylor is] two to three weeks I’m hearing. In a way we can look at it as if it’s a good thing we’re out the competition now. I love the competition and have a lot of respect for it but the bigger picture for this football club.
“Fulham went through yesterday so our Fulham game [on 25thJanuary] will be cancelled. It gives us another week in which players can maybe come back. We’re just trying to get every little bit out of it. It might be another week where we get one or two new players back before the next league game.”
