Lincoln City coach: Charlton Athletic are a monster club at League One level

Lincoln City assistant head coach Tom Shaw was able to focus on the positives despite them relinquishing a 2-0 lead at Charlton Athletic – describing the hosts as a “monster” at League One level.

James Collins produced two clinical finishes either side of half-time to put the Imps in a commanding position.

But the Addicks, who had won their last eight on home turf – for the first time since December 1980 – hit back through Macaulay Gillesphey and Greg Docherty.

“The changing room is perhaps a little bit flat because they are really good professionals and they tried really hard to get three points at a monster football club and an incredible atmosphere,” said Shaw.

“When we analyse that there will be loads to take away and learn from so that hopefully when we are 2-0 up at a big club in the future we can be a little stronger and get over the line.

“James took his goals terrifically well. He’s proven to be a great signing up to this point and had a big influence around the building.

“His two finishes were probably above the level. His second goal was complete class, from start to finish. Ben House’s work in both goals were elite bits of work.

“The ball turns over more than 200 times in League One – it is a transitional division. We have changed shape and we are working on how we can calm the game a little bit more. But at the same time we want to strengthen our counter-attack and early doors it looked really dangerous.”
