‘Loud and hostile’ – Former Millwall defender recalls clashes against Leeds United

Byron Webster has labelled Millwall’s clashes against Leeds United as “loud and hostile” as the two sides meet at The Den this Sunday.

The now 36-year-old defender played the full 90 minutes in Millwall’s 1-0 win against the Whites in 2017 under Neil Harris, with Aiden O’Brien’s 73rd-minute strike the difference.

Webster, who featured 137 times for the Lions and now plays his football for National League side Bromley, was also on the bench in the 2-0 win against Leeds in 2014 under Ian Holloway.

Millwall are 12th in the Championship heading into Sunday’s game.

Daniel Farke’s Leeds are 15th.

The game has been selected for television coverage.

“It’s loud and hostile – the games you want to be playing in,” Webster told the South London Press.

“I’m from Leeds. I’m not a Leeds fan, but my dad and all my family are.

“It was one of the first games I looked for when the fixtures lists were released.

“It will be an amazing day and even better if we get the win and beat Leeds.

“The sun will be shining – it always is. It will be a fantastic day for everyone involved.

“It’s still one I look out for and one I’ll be watching on Sunday.

“As a fan of Millwall, I’ll be wishing them all the best and hopefully they get the win.”

See Friday’s South London Press for an exclusive interview with Webster about Bromley’s start to the 2023-24 National League season.
