Marcus Maddison set to boost match minutes – and will feature against Plymouth and Leyton Orient

Marcus Maddison is set to feature in Charlton’s next two matches.

The attacker has only played once for the Addicks – as an 84th-minute substitute against Sunderland – since signing a deal with the Addicks in the close season.

But now the former Peterborough and Hull man is poised for a bigger role in Saturday’s FA Cup first round tie against Plymouth in SE7 and also Tuesday’s EFL Trophy tie against Leyton Orient.

Maddison had been troubled by an ankle injury picked up in training when a shot was blocked.

“Marcus is definitely one we’ll look to try and push on now and get some minutes into him over the next two games,” said Charlton manager Lee Bowyer.

“Jason Pearce will be involved on Tuesday if he hopefully comes through the next few days. Today was his first day of training properly, he’d been out with the medical team for a long time now – just to tick all the boxes. They didn’t want him to break down again. He broke down twice with a calf and that wasn’t even the injury that he originally had.

“Saturday will be too soon for him.

“We’ve got a few people who are feeling little things here or there. We’re going to have to look after them for the next two weeks and make sure they are okay for Gillingham. We won’t risk anyone.

“Omar [Bogle] is a bit stiff, a bit tight, and little [Paul] Smyth is the same. That’s from the last few games.”
