Matty Godden’s sole goal now is Charlton glory ahead of posting best-ever haul in a season
Matty Godden has a chance of this being the most prolific season of his career but the striker insists his only concern now is League One promotion with Charlton Athletic.
The forward, 33, has netted 17 times since his summer switch from Coventry.
Godden’s best total in the EFL was 21 with Stevenage in 2016-17.
“I probably could’ve sneaked a couple more goals in, but to be close to the 20 mark at this stage is always nice,” said Godden. “I’m glad I’m just settled, back home and enjoying my football.
“My numbers are great and I want to score as many goals as I can – but the main thing for me now, at this stage of the season, is about whether I can help to get us over the line – make us achieve the end goal.
“My numbers are irrelevant at this stage of the season. I just want to achieve something.
“We have put ourselves in an unbelievable position to go and achieve something and that is what I want to do.”
