Millwall 0 QPR 0 – Lions edge extra point clear of Championship bottom three

Millwall moved a point further away from the Championship bottom three as they were forced to settle for a stalemate in South London.

But it could have been worse for the Lions. At half-time they were faced with the fact that Rotherham United, Reading and Wigan were all winning – putting them in the relegation zone.

But Villa – despite being down to 10 men won at the Millers to keep Paul Warne’s side in the final position that will lead to League One football next season.

Wigan ended up losing at Hull City but Reading salvaged a 2-2 draw right near the death at Carrow Road.

It means that Millwall are 19th in the table – two points clear of 22nd place – and also have a game in hand on everybody in the bottom half.

Both sides struggled to find a cutting edge to their play.

David Martin made a vital block on QPR substitute Bright Osayi-Samuel’s shot in the second half in one of the more notable moments in a scrappy contest.

The lack of end product from the hosts was summed up by them failing to make the most of a number of corners in the second half. Although Alex Pearce did twice cause consternation – Hoops keeper Joe Lumley smothering his header at the back post in the first period while Ryan Manning cleared from near his goal-line.

Referee John Brooks incensed home fans with some of his first-half calls. Ryan Tunnicliffe seemed particularly aggrieved by Josh Scowen’s challenge in the opening seconds. And Lee Gregory appeared to be pushed by Toni Leistner as he got in behind the Rangers backline – a strong claim for a red card if given – but the official was unimpressed.
