Millwall boss Alex Neil quizzed on if Millwall can make a late play-off push

BY MITCHELL HALL

Alex Neil has said that it is still too early to say whether a Millwall playoff push is realistic, despite having just six games remaining in the Championship season.

Millwall currently sit just six points off the playoff places thanks to Mihailo Ivanovic’s late winner securing three points against Portsmouth on Saturday, but have less than a month to close the gap before season’s end.

Among their six remaining fixtures include first-place Burnley, playoff rivals Middlesbrough and a trip to second-place Sheffield United tomorrow evening.

“This conversation happens every other time we win a game,” said Neil. “We will try and win the next game, if it puts us closer to the play-offs then obviously it is realistic. If we lose the next game and it puts us further from it, then we are running out of games.

“Like every game that is coming up, we want to try and win it. If it puts us closer to it, within enough points to get there with two or three games remaining, then by all means, we are in the running.

“I think it is still a bit early. I know there are only six games left but things change on a week-to-week basis at the moment.

“As you can see with some of the results on Saturday, the teams at the bottom of the table are fighting for their lives right now so certainly nothing is for granted in the Championship.”
