Millwall boss on ‘soft’ nature of Cardiff City winner
Neil Harris was left frustrated with the “soft” nature of the goal his Millwall side conceded in their 1-0 defeat at Cardiff on Tuesday night.
Perry Ng was left unmarked to head home a corner as Cardiff sealed their first win of the Championship campaign.
“That’s my gripe with my team,” said Lions head coach Harris. “Miscontrolling the ball and giving it away….that can happen. But don’t be soft and concede a poor goal. That’s something we simply can’t allow.
“I’m disappointed in the performance, and it’s the right word to use—disappointed—because the lads have been so good.
“We haven’t got a thick squad, we haven’t got loads, we can’t make wholesale changes. We have lots of young players in the group that need time to develop, so I have asked a lot of the group so far. Today is the first time we have not hit the levels.”
Despite the defeat in Wales the Lions head coach was keen to get across that his side have produced consistently good displays up to now.
Harris said: “Honestly, we have played really well game after game and not always got the results. Today was the first time we didn’t hit those levels.
“If you aren’t going to be that team that can impact the game, then you have to make sure you get a 0-0 draw at the worst. That’s my disappointment today. My biggest frustration is, if we aren’t good enough to win that game, then at least don’t get beaten.”
