Millwall caretaker boss knows rotation options will be key for hectic Christmas schedule

David Livermore has talked about the importance of Millwall being able to rotate their side over the Christmas period.

The Lions start off their festive schedule at Norwich City on Boxing Day.

And Millwall will head there without Danny McNamara (knee), Jake Cooper (knee), Calum Scanlon (back) and Josh Coburn (foot).

Livermore is set to take caretaker charge once more as the Championship side continue the process of appointing a new boss. Reports over the weekend suggested that former Stoke, Preston and Sunderland manager Alex Neil was now the frontrunner.

Asked about the hectic schedule coming up, Livermore said: “We are slowly running out of full-backs, so we’ll have to find a solution to that. It is very difficult in the festive period to play and then go again – certainly in the three games.

“I ain’t looked too far ahead of today (a 1-0 win over Blackburn on Saturday). We’ll have to rotate and try to find solutions to the full-back areas.”

Millwall have not been prolific scorers and their victory against Rovers was by the narrowest of margins, Mihailo Ivanovic headed a stoppage-time winner.

“Just keep going and knocking on the door,” said Livermore, when asked how to boost their scoring prowess. “Like we did today.

“We kind of forced it a little bit towards the end of the game. Once we calmed down and kept it a little bit more, built into wide areas, I thought we were better.

“The underlying data is quite positive. We’re quite high up on good chances created etc. There is data that says we’re a better attacking team than maybe our goals scored suggests.”
