Millwall club record signing set to be sidelined until April with injury sustained in Crystal Palace tie

Millwall head coach Alex Neil has confirmed that Camiel Neghli will miss the next six weeks with an ankle ligament injury.

The Lions’ club record signing, following his January move from Sparta Rotterdam, came off during the 3-1 defeat at Crystal Palace in the FA Cup fifth round tie on Saturday.

He rolled his ankle in what looked like a painful moment and now Neil has confirmed that he is set for a period on the sidelines.

The Lions boss said: “Camiel will be out for around six weeks.

“He rolled his ankle – it looks like he has done a little bit of damage to some of the ligaments. At the moment the timeline I am given is about six weeks.”

Femi Azeez was taken off at half-time during Tuesday’s 2-0 loss to Bristol City and was replaced by Aidomo Emkahu.

“Femi was an outlet for us in the first half,” said Neil. “Femi was the one who was getting us up the pitch the most and looked as if he could take us up the pitch. What we did need against a back five is someone that is going to stay wide, get the ball, get us higher up the pitch and provide the crosses into the box.

“It certainly wasn’t a tactical thing – he felt his hamstring so he had to come off.”
