Millwall manager Gary Rowett: There aren’t many football club owners left like John Berylson

BY RICHARD CAWLEY

Millwall manager Gary Rowett has praised John Berylson for his supportive approach.

The Lions owner appointed the 47-year-old as manager in October 2019.

“It has been a breath of fresh air to work with someone like John,” said Rowett.

“We probably speak two or three times a week and normally straight after a game.

“With some owners you only hear from them from time to time, and that’s fine, but John loves the club and wants to know what is going on day to day.

“I just have some really good conversations with him.

“He is a knowledgeable guy and not just in a football sense, there are so many things we end up talking about. He is always supportive.

“He is an owner who is realistic and never one to make you feel worse after a defeat, he always tries to say the right things. From a managerial point of view that is always appreciated. When an owner has put in that much money they don’t always feel that way after a game.

“He has put his trust in you and you want to repay that.

“It is one of the reasons I came to the club. There are not many owners like that left anymore, who deal with managers in that way. I’ve certainly enjoyed working with John so far.”
