Millwall won’t be routine testing players for coronavirus

BY RICHARD CAWLEY

Gary Rowett says Millwall’s players are unlikely to get a routine test for the coronavirus – with the Den boss fully supportive that the priority is for kits to be used on the frontline battle against the pandemic.

The Lions were not due to resume training until April 3 but even that date now looks unlikely with the government requesting that the vast majority of the UK population stay at home for three weeks.

When asked if any Lions players had caught the virus, Rowett told the South London Press on Monday: “We probably won’t be testing any time soon. I read a thing recently that the tests are needed for people who are actually ill and in hospital. I understand that completely.

“I don’t know any of our players have had it or have come into contact with it. That’s not to say that they haven’t and have been unaware [because they showed no symptoms].”
