Nathan Jones: Charlton need to win all their remaining games to keep automatic promotion dream alive

Nathan Jones has told his Charlton Athletic players that nothing less than victories in all of their remaining League One matches will keep alive any hope of claiming the second automatic promotion place.

The Addicks are guaranteed a play-off place after today’s 2-1 win over Northampton Town at The Valley.

Charlton head to second-placed Wycombe Wanderers on Monday before travelling to third-placed Wrexham on Saturday.

If they can defeat the Chairboys at the start of the week it would cut the gap to their opponents to two points.

“We have to win all three games,” said Jones, asked about top-two hopes. “We can’t rely on others to get promoted.

“We have to have 88 points – minimum. And to get 88 it is the maximum we can get.

“So we have to win all three.

“One game at a time. Take every game as it comes. Big game. We are absolutely delighted we are in this position because if you go back to November and December we weren’t. We have had to show quality, character, aggression, athleticism, belief – everything you need to achieve something.

“We are in a good moment.”
