Nathan Jones explains why Miles Leaburn sat out Charlton win at Walsall – and gives positive update on another absentee
Nathan Jones revealed why Miles Leaburn sat out of Charlton’s 4-0 win at Walsall in the FA Cup – and gave a positive update on another Addicks absentee.
Striker Leaburn returned from nearly a year out with a hamstring injury at the start of last month.
He featured for 87 minutes of the midweek win at Burton Albion but didn’t feature in the cup win at the Bescot Stadium despite travelling.
Jones, when asked about his forward’s absence, said: “He came off the back of a big injury. He’s a young kid. Put in two big shifts. Been on the road, a lot of travelling. Felt a bit stiff so no point risking him.
“That’s why we brought Danny Hylton in. Just for any clarification, Danny Hylton takes the load off Chuks (Aneke) and Miles because we know that we can’t just flog both of those.
“Chuks has been out for a while now, that’s why we’ve got Danny and Danny has impacted. It’s using your squad. The games come thick and fast and we have to.
“We’ve got players who are coming back. We had (Dan) Kanu and (Dan) Potts back today. We’re in a slightly better position. Hopefully we get Lloyd (Jones) back after the weekend which is another big one for us.
“It’s starting to turn around again. As I’ve said to the fans, who were magnificent again today, we’ve just got to stay in. Stay involved, stay close (to the top six) because when we hit the ground running, get everyone back and are the team I want us to be then that is exciting.”
