Nathan Jones urges Lloyd Jones to take opportunity to achieve what he is capable of after extending Charlton Athletic contract
Nathan Jones believes that Lloyd Jones now has a real opportunity to achieve what he is capable of after signing a new contract at The Valley.
The Charlton Athletic defender has penned new terms on a two-and-half-year deal that will keep him at the club until 2027.
The centre-half, picked up following his departure from Cambridge United in 2023, was due to be out of contract this summer. But his manager never questioned whether the 29-year-old would sign on the dotted line to keep him in SE7.
Nathan Jones said: “I don’t think there was any doubt. I’ve got a very good relationship with Lloyd.

“I’ve signed him at Luton. Lloyd’s turned into the player I always knew that he could. He’s had that potential, but you can’t say potential at 29.
“He’s had to knuckle down. What you want to achieve, what you want to be? This is the basics you do. You do them well and then bring out everything else you do.
“Then you can be a top footballer. He’s not achieved what he should have yet, but this gives him a real good opportunity. We’re delighted to get it done.
“It’s so important to us in all aspects around the place. We build environments and it takes more than just a good footballer and a good athlete to build an environment. We’ve got so many good people around the club now and we’re reaping the benefit.
“The four games he played for me last year he was outstanding and then he got injured. Since I’ve taken over Lloyd Jones has been a credit to himself and that’s why we’ve offered him a long-term deal.
“That’s why we’re glad to get it done and that’s why we put our big trust in him.”
