Newcastle United keen on deal for Crystal Palace’s Andros Townsend

BY RICHARD CAWLEY

Newcastle United are interested in a deal to take Crystal Palace star Andros Townsend back to Tyneside.

The 26-year-old joined the Eagles in July 2016 from the North-East outfit, after they triggered a release clause in his contract which was set at just over £15million.

Prior to that, Toon boss Rafa Benitez had managed to get Townsend firing but was powerless to step the former Tottenham man from leaving.

The winger, who has also been used up top in a partnership with Wilfried Zaha by Eagles chief Roy Hodgson, scored two goals in 36 Premier League appearances last season and also weighed in with eight assists.
