Non-league round-up: Cray Valley PM’s excellent Isthmian League Premier campaign continues as Dulwich boss critical of his players
Steve McKimm’s side, who won promotion last season, are second in the table after 10 wins and four draws in their opening 17 fixtures.
Tom Beere, pictured, put Cray Valley ahead in the 32nd minute before Andre Coker added a second goal in the fifth minute of second-half stoppage time.
The Millers are unbeaten in nine league matches. McKimm said: “It was a change of system, to go full throttle on them, and it worked.
“We have watched them and decided we could get at them with two strikers. We do that with every game, we look at the opposition and decide about the best formation. We knew going two up top would occupy their centre-halves, who are physical.
“Max (Ovenden) has made two good saves, so we’re not getting away from the fact they had chances. But a little bit more quality and luck falling our way, we could’ve scored a few more.
“Tom’s free-kick is a peach – it has gone in the net before the keeper has even moved. It’s a fantastic strike.
“Freddie (Parker) has broken away right at the end there and unselfishly he has seen someone in a better position than him to have an empty net to tap into.”
Dulwich Hamlet are 10th in the same division after a 2-0 home loss to Hashtag United on Saturday.
“It’s not good enough,” said Hamlet boss Hakan Hayrettin. “It’s two games now where we’ve under-performed and the opposition has wanted it more than us. They played better than us and virtually ran the game.
“Our home form has been really, really good but today was a lacklustre performance all round.
“Conditions played a big part for both teams but we didn’t stop them from putting balls into our box – we let them play. If it wasn’t for Jameson (Horlick, keeper) it could’ve been three or four.
“We were nowhere near it and I can only apologise for the performance.”
Welling United are 18th in National League South after a 2-2 midweek draw at home to Tonbridge Angels.
The Wings led 2-0 before the 20-minute mark through Alex Lankshear and Joshua Redfearn.
Liam Vincent cut the deficit on the hour and converted an 81st-minute penalty.
