Oliver Glasner asked about Eberechi Eze penalty miss in Crystal Palace’s 5-0 defeat at Newcastle
Oliver Glasner said Crystal Palace trusted Eberechi Eze to take the penalty kick in their heavy 5-0 defeat at Newcastle on Wednesday.
The Eagles were awarded a spot kick 30 minutes into the game after Jacob Murphy had given the Magpies the lead early on.
Referee Darren England gave Palace a way back into the game when Nick Pope clattered into Chris Richards coming to claim a free-kick.
Greenwich-born Eze stepped up and produced a delayed run up which saw him role the ball into the hands of Pope.
Newcastle went on to score three more after Eze’s missed effort before half-time and rounded off the scoring through Alexander Isak in the second half.
Palace have conceded 10 goals in their last two away outings.
“It’s always that Ebz and JP are the two takers – they decide on the pitch,” said Glasner.
“Ebz had the ball and he takes many penalties in and after training. He usually scores many goals from this situation and we trust him completely.
“Today it didn’t work, but nothing worked today.
“Today, we were not good enough to be a competitive opposition for Newcastle – this is what we have to accept today.”
