Oliver Glasner contemplates formation switch to change Crystal Palace’s winless Premier League start
Oliver Glasner is considering changing Crystal Palace’s formation to find a goalscoring solution, writes Edmund Brack.
The Eagles started with Eddie Nketiah and Eberechi Eze as the front two in the 1-0 defeat at Nottingham Forest on Monday night.
Palace are the lowest goalscorers in the Premier League this season having only found the back of the net five times and are winless in their first eight outings – equalling a club-record worst start.
Eagles boss Glasner, right, said: “We always have an expected goals [xG] higher than one, but we don’t score – we miss clear chances.
“The more we miss them, the more the confidence goes down. The goal they scored – there was no chance – but it ended up as a goal. Maybe we need this – a goal from nothing. We don’t get it at the moment.
“We don’t create enough at the moment but it’s too much to expect us to play offensively brilliant.
“Maybe it is [time] to change the shape. Today (Monday) we played 3-5-2, maybe we need more players on the pitch who have scored goals and have shown they can score goals.
“It was my decision not to start JP [Mateta] – maybe we need more players on the pitch who can score goals and to find the right formation. This is what I’m thinking about.”
