‘Outstandingly well’ – Crystal Palace boss pleased with Bournemouth draw after heavy Manchester City and Newcastle defeats

Oliver Glasner was proud of his side’s goalless draw with Bournemouth after their heavy back-to-back defeats to Manchester City and Newcastle.

The Eagles lost 5-2 at The Ethiad last Saturday and lost 5-0 during midweek against Newcastle.

Glasner’s side were reduced to 10 men against the Cherries before half time but shut out Andoni Iraola’s man advantage in the second half to claim a point.

Palace head to Arsenal on Wednesday and play Aston Villa in the FA Cup semi-final on Saturday at Wembley.

Glasner said: “When you enter a game with 10 goals on your shoulders that you conceded in the last two games, it’s not easy.

“We could see that we were not full of confidence in the first half. We were defending ok, but then we got a red card. You can collapse as a team, but the players did the opposite.

“We showed a great team effort and performance. We defended well.

“We tried to find the right moments to go forward. We had five dangerous situations in the Bournemouth box. I’m very pleased with the performance in the second half, with the performance and spirit.

“We have started to gain our confidence. It’s not easy to play 50 minutes in the Premier League with one player less and not conceding a goal.

“We were praised for our defending for many weeks, but we saw the opposite in the last week.

“To see it again in these circumstances is not easy. The players did outstandingly well. The players still felt disappointed after the game, but I personally can’t understand it.

“With everything that’s happened in the last week, it was outstanding what they showed today.

“I’m absolutely delighted.”
