QPR’s slump shows no signs of ending as ‘silly penalty’ is so costly at West Brom

Gareth Ainsworth bemoaned conceding “a silly penalty” as QPR extended their winless run to eight Championship games following Tuesday’s 2-0 defeat at West Brom.

The west Londoners went 1-0 down in the 59th minute after Brandon Thomas-Asante converted past Asmir Begovic.

Kenneth Paal brought down Grady Diangana and R’s defender Jimmy Dunne, pictured, was sent off by referee James Bell.

West Brom doubled their lead through Diangana nine minutes later to ensure QPR stay in the bottom three of the Championship and the pressure intensfies on Ainsworth.

“We had a plan and the plan was working – but we give a silly penalty away,” boss Ainsworth told QPR’s YouTube channel.

“It looks like a penalty. He doesn’t really need to make the tackle – it was there and working.

“The West Brom fans were frustrated and then all of a sudden it turns on that moment.

“We lose Jimmy to a red card. I have to look at the video, but the referee said he got involved in something around the penalty spot. He was already on a yellow, so it’s naive if he has. It’s disappointing, but it’s going that way at the moment.

“I’m a fighter and I’ll fight my way out of this. We will fight out of this – it’s what we have got to do now.

“I know the fans are getting frustrated and there are a few songs and criticism, but that’s only understandable.”

QPR are at home to runaway Championship leaders Leicester City on Saturday.
