Sheffield United boss confirms ‘big injury’ blow ahead of Fulham
Sheffield United boss Paul Heckingbottom has confirmed that defender John Egan is set for a spell on the sidelines and will miss this weekend’s Premier League clash at Fulham.
The 30-year-old defender came off in the 56th minute in last week’s 2-0 defeat at West Ham and was replaced by Chris Basham.
Irishman Egan has captained the Blades in the Premier League this season as they still searching for their first three points since winning promotion from the Championship.
“He’s out and will be out for a while,” said Heckingbottom of Egan.
“It’s another big injury for us.
“He’s going to be seeing the specialist tomorrow and we will have more of an idea.
“It’s a blow, I can’t deny that. We want everyone fit. That’s an opportunity for others.”
Heckinbottom also added that former Everton midfielder Tom Davies is also a doubt.
The Blades are bottom of the table and have a -14 goal difference.
“The mood has been good – it’s been fine,” added Heckinbottom.
“I thought it was clear against West Ham with what he did well and what we need to do better.
“That’s been the sole focus this week – attack as a team and defend as a team.
“Fulham away is a tough game, but we want the points.
“We have had to work so hard to be here and get here, but we want to stay here. We will continue to work hard.”
