Silva subs sink hopes of Fulham comeback against Wolves at Craven Cottage

Marco Silva conceded he probably “rushed” a substitute decision that went on to backfire in Fulham’s 4-1 loss to Wolves on Saturday.

The west Londoners were trailing 2-1 when Joachim Andersen was forced off with a calf injury.

Whites head coach Silva had already made his final two changes with Rodrigo Muniz and Timothy Castagne replacing Raul Jimenez and Kenny Tete.

Andersen’s premature exit dealt hopes of a late comeback a fatal blow with Matheus Cunha scoring the second of two technically superb goals with Goncalo Guedes adding a fourth in the fifth minute of stoppage time.

“I wanted to bring fresh players, with Kenny Tete on a yellow card,” said Silva, inset. I probably should have kept that one in my pocket, but the yellow card probably rushed my decision to bring on Timo [Castagne] as well.

“It was really weird game. That’s the Premier League. It’s easy for us to say we were really unfortunate. It was a situation [where we had to] play with 10 men without a red card.

“You can’t concede the way we conceded the equaliser. It was great from a top, top player, but it was different from our [own perspective].

“We’ve been a team who have been creating. It’s really important for us to keep compact, because we have the ability to create the moments. The positives are there.

“We can’t just be looking at the score. The two goals when we were with 10 men didn’t reflect the game.”

Fulham are next in action on Sunday as they head to a Tottenham side who have been buoyed by a 4-0 thrashing of Manchester City.

The Whites have not won at Spurs since March 2013, Dimitar Berbatov on target against his former club to seal a 1-0 victory.

Fulham have been linked with a January loan move for Brighton striker Evan Ferguson, 20. The Republic of Ireland international is reportedly unhappy at a lack of game time.
