Terry Taylor looking surplus to requirements at Charlton Athletic

Charlton Athletic look open to allowing Terry Taylor to leave SE7 after the midfielder was not included in their matchday squad for Tuesday’s EFL Cup tie against Birmingham City.

The 23-year-old signed for an undisclosed from Burton Albion last summer.

But Taylor’s integration with the Addicks was not helped by an ankle injury which required surgery in October.

He has made seven appearances for Charlton but only two of those are League One starts.

Addicks manager Nathan Jones was asked about whether Taylor could be allowed to move on but did not directly tackle the question. He responded: “We’ve got one or two that we don’t feel are going to play regularly, so for their careers if they want to move on they can. If not we will use them.

“At this point in time there are a few in the squad that are available to go and get regular football. If we can do that it gives us the opportunity to strengthen even further.

“I pick a team and I pick a bench – I pick certain things. That’s what we do. It is choices, what we need.

“People come in and we give them opportunities. Zach Mitchell was excellent when he came on – he’s aggressive, front-footed and really mobile. So these are people we want to take forward.

“I’ve used the squad again tonight and showed we’ve had the level of performance required at this level. We’ve arguably played the best team in our league or one of the best in our league and the margins have been very small.”
