That’s my best goal so far – Charlton’s Jes Rak-Sakyi on opener at Exeter City
Jes Rak-Sakyi reckons his stunning left-footed volley at Exeter is the best goal of his fledgling career so far.
The Crystal Palace loanee opened the scoring for Charlton at St James Park after just eight minutes -latching onto George Dobson’s measured chip into the area and thundering a wonderful first-time hit beyond Jamal Blackman.
Corey Blackett-Taylor added a second ten minutes later, with Exeter pulling one back through Demetri Mitchell before the break. But Charlton held on for a fourth win in five league outings and Rak-Sakyi was delighted that he could play his part in the victory.
He beamed: “I think that’s the number one [goal he has scored]. Myself and Dobbo have that connection.
“I knew he has the quality to find me in behind. I just ran off my man. The quality of Dobbo found me on the run and I’m happy I tucked it away.
“I thought I didn’t have as much time as I did. I saw the keeper coming a bit. I put it right and I knew he wasn’t able to catch it and it went in. I just watched it back now. It looked better on the phone. I’m happy that I scored today.
“[Charlton boss Dean Holden] wants me to add that to my game. Running off the ball. He’s really demanding of us in training because he knows the quality that we have. It’s been a tough season but we’re trying to improve every week and get the results.
“We’ve been saying that we needed a reaction from last week [defeat against Bolton]. We’re happy that we were able to bounce back from last week’s defeat and get the three points today.”
