‘There is more than one way’ – Charlton captain expecting more twists and turns in League One promotion race
Charlton captain Greg Docherty is expecting more twists and turns in the race for League One promotion before the end of the season.
The Addicks fought back from two goals down to pick up a point against mid-table Lincoln on Saturday.
Nathan Jones’ side are now eight points off second-placed Wrexham, who strolled to a 3-0 win over Burton over the weekend.
“Considering where we were 25 games ago, we would have bitten your hand off for this position,” said Docherty.
“We came in at the start of the season and spoke about being in the hunt come the end of the season.
“Birmingham have kind of ran away with it, but with second and the play-offs, there is more than one way to come up.
“Whatever happens, we will keep on going. There will be lots of twists and turns. We will stay in our lane.
“In nine home games, we’ve had eight home wins and a draw – nobody wants to play us.
“We knew we weren’t at the level today for the first 60 minutes, but we showed in the last 30 that we have a bit of character about us.
Macaulay Gillesphey and Docherty both netted in the second half to fight back for a point.
“It’s mixed,” said Docherty.
“I’m proud of the group for coming back from two goals down. The first half wasn’t us. Credit to Lincoln, they played the conditions better than us and we allowed that to happen.
“After the start we had at home last week, we wanted to build on that. Teams cause you different challenges and it can’t always go that way.
“The positive thing from me was the reaction from the whole stadium and the boys on the pitch to go 2-0 up.
“The subs came on and had a good impact. That’s what the manager talks about all the time – it being a squad game.”
