‘We created some big chances’ – Accrington boss felt they did enough to beat Charlton

John Coleman reckoned that Accrington Stanley deserved to beat Charlton Athletic.

Stanley equalised in the last minute through Korede Adedoyin after Miles Leaburn scored in the 94th minute – which looked set to be the winner.

The game finished 2-2 after Corey Blackett-Taylor netted the opener.

Asked if he believed Accrington should have won, Coleman said: “I feel so, on chances created probably even. They played better first half, they passed it better.

“We didn’t impose ourselves on the game like we know we can at home. Second half was a completely different story. We created some big chances, their keeper has made some great saves – we’re disappointed we haven’t scored from the chances we created.

“To go behind 2-1 in injury time after showing character to come from behind and get an equaliser shows a testament to the character of our side.

“The strength of our fitness as well, we’ve got to learn when you have a team on the ropes you have to finish them off and we did have them on the ropes in the second half and didn’t finish them off.

“At 1-1 we would’ve felt hard done by that we didn’t win the game. The fans have gone home feeling a little bit better because it finished 2-2.”
