Wrexham striker early injury doubt for League Two clash against AFC Wimbledon
Wrexham striker Paul Mullin is an early injury doubt for their League Two clash against AFC Wimbledon on August 12.
The 28-year-old suffered a punctured lung when he collided with Manchester United goalkeeper Nathan Bishop in a pre-season friendly that took place at the Snapdragon Stadium in San Diego.
Wrexham beat a heavily-rotated United side 3-1.
Mullin scored 38 goals last season as Wrexham won the National League.
Wimbledon open their League Two campaign in eight days away to Grimsby.
Wrexham boss Phil Parkinson, who managed Dons boss Johnnie Jackson at Charlton, said: “I’m fuming about it, I’ve got to be honest with you. It was a clumsy, reckless challenge in a pre-season game and I’m not happy with it at all. I haven’t seen the goalie and he’s probably best steering clear of us for the time being because we’re not very happy.
“It’s a clumsy challenge from the goalkeeper, I’m disappointed with that. It should have been a straight red. If it’s not denying a goalscoring opportunity it’s still a dangerous challenge so if you add the two scenarios together he should have been off the pitch.”
