Zelar double lifts QPR off Championship basement
Zan Celar, who was making his 20th appearance of the season, scored his first and second goals for the west Londoners after joining in the summer from Swiss side Lugano.
Marti Cifuentes’ side moved two points clear of bottom place Portsmouth, who had their clash with Millwall postponed due to a power cut.
“It’s an incredible feeling,” Cifuentes told QPR’s YouTube channel.
“I’m very happy for the supporters and for the players, who have been working really hard in a painful period.
“It’s not easy to accept to chase that many games without a win.
“Football is like this. We have played at a higher level in other games and deserved more, but the reality is that we scored the chances that we got and prevented Cardiff from scoring.”
Striker Celar, 25, missed a penalty during Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Stoke and had come in for some heavy criticism since signing at Lotus Road.
“It’s not been an easy week for him,” said the Spaniard.
“It’s not easy for a striker coming to a new league and not scoring – that affects the confidence.
“Missing the penalty in a game where we didn’t get the three points was tough, but he has quality in the last third.
“He is still a young player who is playing in a new league and when you don’t score in your first months, it’s not easy.
“I’m very happy for him.”
